From one dusty camera to Ubuntu

I took my first film photo when I was 13 and immediately I was hooked! I started getting more interested in film photography and after going through what felt like hundreds of disposable film cameras, I quickly realized how expensive this little hobby of mine had become and how damaging it was for the environment. And so sadly, I decided my film photography journey had come to an end. 

I was gutted that not only was I spending thousands of Rands on disposable film cameras, but these cameras were just ending up in landfills, destroying our environment more and contributing to our earth's detriment. 

A few years later, during a 3am burst of interior design inspiration, I stumbled upon the ugliest backpack I’d ever seen, inside containing an old, dusty film camera, and some cylindrical film containers still harboring old used film rolls.

I decided the next day to take the camera, along with the film I’d found to the nearest camera shop to get everything developed; and 2 weeks later when I received the digital copies, my passion for film came flooding back.

I felt like a kid on Christmas morning going through film photos that must’ve been taken 16 years prior. 16 years of memories locked inside the perfect little time capsule.

I instantly became determined. I wanted everyone to feel the giddy, childish joy I got from the entire film process - from taking the photos to finally seeing them in all their glory, I wanted everyone to have a piece of that pie!
